Editor’s Note: Like my quote of the month, this book leans a bit too left for me and yet, for the same reason it resonates. Our society is currently strained with the hope that we can return to some “purity” of white, male, Christian dominance. Why would we want to return to the 1950s? Why not becomes clear since the successful and scholarly Bryant uses research facts to back up the economic success of diversity. Early in my career, I was stunned by employers who thought treating employees roughly was necessary; my businesses are built on fairness and kindness and have done quite well. Capitalism that destroys the middle-class strikes me as similarly stupid, even from a selfish perspective. In this book, I found the math to prove certainly that inclusion is better economically than exclusion.
Favorite excerpt:
“Capitalism should be a non-political, “math-based” system—not emotion-driven—designed to create wealth, opportunity, and ownership for everyone [yet] over the last four decades, economic gains have flowed disproportionately to the top.”

Tim McCarthy
