Editor’s Note: My sister, Mary, is my guiding light for resilience. In my mid-teens, she lived and worked in Washington, DC, and my parents let me visit her several times. I learned so many things from Mary — some about hard work, but more about relationships. She was a leader among many friends, new and old, who swarmed to her apartment and turned up the music to dance. This song was one I remember being played at max volume, early in the morning after a late-night party.
Favorite lyric:
“I got troubles, oh, whoa,
I got worries, oh, whoa,
I’ve got wounds to bind.“
